Announcement: Matrix Server Shutdown
Hello everyone,
We regret to share some unfortunate news: our Matrix server at matrix.tosdr.org will be shutting down in June 2025.
We understand that many of you have relied on our homeserver for private and secure communication over the years, and we deeply sympathize with how inconvenient and disappointing this announcement may be.
We’ve done everything possible to keep the server operational, but unfortunately, a combination of limited resources—both in terms of manpower and finances—has left us no choice but to make this difficult decision.
Why Are We Shutting Down?
As a nonprofit organization with a small team, we’re facing increasing challenges meeting the requirements of regulations such as the Digital Services Act (DSA). These include obligations to monitor and address illegal content, which demand a level of moderation we cannot provide.
Combined with the financial burden of maintaining the server, these responsibilities make it unsustainable for us to continue operating the Matrix service in its current form.
What You Need to Do
To ensure your data is preserved as much as possible, we recommend migrating your account using the Element Matrix Migration Tool:

Looking Ahead
Although this server won’t return in its current form, you can still chat with people at ToS;DR over the Matrix protocol. You will not be able to create accounts on this server and it is purely hosting the space to bridge our chats. You can join it here:

What Will Happen to My Data?
As an organization dedicated to privacy, we assure you that all your data will be permanently deleted from our servers and backups. You can rest easy knowing that your personal information will remain secure and confidential.
